A woman who says she has lived in America since 1989 stood at an immigration event and—through an interpreter—called for a pathway to citizenship for people who have been in the country at least seven years.
And THAT opened up an immigration conversation Americans desperately need to have.
Because immigration isn’t only about who crosses the border. It’s also about assimilation.
This woman says she owns a home, owns a business, employs people, pays taxes, and has children and grandchildren born in America. In other words, she has experienced opportunities that millions around the world can only dream about.
So why are Americans constantly told that we owe more?
In this episode of Unshakable, I’m talking about citizenship, assimilation, entitlement, the American Dream—and why citizenship should be understood as a privilege granted on America’s terms, not something politicians or activists can simply demand.
