Donald Trump just made one of the most extraordinary promises of the 2026 midterms: if Republicans retain control of both the House and Senate, he says every adult American citizen will receive a $5,000 “Trump Dividend.”
My first reaction? This man really does think like a CEO. ????
But then I had a question:
Can the President of the United States actually DO this?
So I looked it up right in the middle of the show—and that’s where things got interesting.
There’s a major difference between making a campaign promise and actually cutting $5,000 checks. Congress controls federal spending, the proposal could cost more than $1 trillion, and suddenly the phrase “dividend” gets a lot more complicated.
So what exactly is this?
A dividend?
A campaign incentive?
A massive new spending program?
Or simply one of the most audacious midterm political strategies we’ve seen in years?
I’m breaking down the legal question, the money, the politics and the part conservatives should probably be examining before anybody starts planning what they’re doing with their imaginary $5,000.
