In this episode of Unshakable, I’m asking a question that increasingly cannot be ignored: if this movement is really about justice for Nolan, why hasn’t his mother publicly denounced the threats, harassment and continued suspicion directed toward his friends?
We also examine publicly available material in which Christine Winsley Wells previously spoke extensively about her Filipino heritage—and compare that with the racial framing that has increasingly surrounded the campaign for “Justice for Nolan.”
Is this simply a mother embracing both sides of her heritage?
Or has race become politically and socially useful to a movement desperately searching for another civil-rights narrative?
And what can the history of carefully cultivated civil-rights imagery—from Rosa Parks to the modern activist apparatus—teach us about how legitimate grievances can become political symbols?
This conversation is uncomfortable.
Good.
Truth doesn’t become less true because somebody doesn’t like the questions.
