A PINK BULLHORN. A PROTEST ON THE FLORIDA HOUSE FLOOR. AND A CAMPAIGN THAT LOOKS MORE LIKE A PERFORMANCE THAN A JOB INTERVIEW?!
Y’all, we need to talk about Angie Nixon.
Florida Democratic Senate nominee Angie Nixon is running to represent the entire state of Florida in the United States Senate against Republican incumbent Ashley Moody.
And I’ve got a question:
**IS THIS THE KIND OF LEADERSHIP WE SHOULD EXPECT FROM SOMEONE SEEKING ONE OF THE HIGHEST OFFICES IN THE COUNTRY?**
In this episode of Unshakable with April Chapman, we’re examining Nixon’s public conduct, her disruptive protest against Florida’s redistricting legislation, her campaign-trail appearances, and the political ideology behind her candidacy.
Listen, I was born and raised in the South Bronx. I know the difference between connecting with everyday people and putting on a performance.
And here’s what I believe:
**WE DON’T WANT YOU TO RELATE. WE WANT YOU TO LEAD.**
Nixon argues that her protests represent standing up for voters and fighting political injustice. I question whether those tactics—and the policies she champions—demonstrate the leadership, judgment, and discipline needed to represent an entire state.
We’re also taking a closer look at her affiliation with the Democratic Socialists of America, Medicare for All, immigration enforcement, economic policy, and what these proposals could mean in practice.
Then we’re examining the broader question of why some Democratic donors have been hesitant to invest in Florida’s Senate race—and whether political ideology and electability may offer a better explanation than race alone.
**IN THIS EPISODE:**
– Angie Nixon’s pink bullhorn protest in the Florida Legislature
– Her campaign appearances and political messaging
– My perspective on the standards expected of a U.S. senator
– Nixon’s affiliation with the Democratic Socialists of America
– Medicare for All and the debate over government-run health care
– Immigration enforcement, public safety, and individual responsibility
– Why I question the viability of her statewide campaign
– Political disagreement versus accusations of racism
Protesting injustice is one thing. Demonstrating that you’re prepared to lead is another.
And as far as I’m concerned, those are questions every candidate should be prepared to answer.
???? QUESTION: How important are professionalism, public conduct, and policy experience when evaluating a candidate for the U.S. Senate?
