Washington, D.C. officials held a press briefing addressing a surge in so-called “teen takeovers” across the district. U.S. Attorney Jeanine Pirro delivered a stern warning, calling the trend violent, dangerous, and illegal, and saying enforcement will be ramped up to stop it.
Pirro emphasized that these organized gatherings of teenagers in public spaces have led to disruptions, property damage, and growing safety concerns. She also directed a message to parents, warning that those who fail to supervise or knowingly allow illegal activity could face prosecution, fines, or jail time.
Officials say a new youth curfew is already in place as part of broader efforts to curb the trend ahead of the summer season in the nation’s capital.
