But here’s the problem: you don’t get to control how other people behave. You have to control YOU.
If the fact that he was a man matters when explaining why you felt threatened, shouldn’t the fact that he was a man have mattered before you walked toward him?
Today we’re using the A’ja Wilson fan confrontation as a case study in emotional regulation, personal responsibility and the dangerous habit of escalating situations we could have walked away from.
Women especially need to understand something: being a woman is not a force field. You cannot voluntarily walk up on men, escalate confrontations and simply assume every man will follow the rules you expect him to follow.
And this conversation is bigger than A’ja Wilson.
Feeling disrespected doesn’t give you permission to lose control. Feeling threatened doesn’t automatically mean someone threatened you. And someone else’s bad behavior doesn’t excuse yours.
A’ja doesn’t have to control that man.
She has to control A’ja.
