SpaceX has confirmed plans to launch a consumer wireless carrier under the Starlink Mobile brand, putting it in direct competition with Verizon, AT&T, and T-Mobile. The FCC has approved SpaceX’s roughly $17 billion purchase of EchoStar spectrum to power its next-generation direct-to-phone service. When the plans first surfaced, Verizon and AT&T stock took their worst hit in years.
