His point is about what kind of courage that is. There’s the kind that costs nothing — you say a hard thing, people are unhappy, you go home. And then there’s the kind that exists after somebody has actually been killed doing exactly what you’re doing.
Charlie Kirk proved it isn’t theoretical. He was assassinated doing this. So a young woman standing on a campus with body armor under her shirt isn’t being dramatic. She’s being accurate.
The segment opens somewhere quieter. Wooden knew who Charlie Kirk was before John did — he watched him on Fox for years before John ever connected with Turning Point in 2021. What confirmed it for him was John: sitting at the table hearing what he’d say about the man up close, and thinking this guy is exactly who I thought he was.
And the exchange that follows is the best sixty seconds here. A friend asked Wooden about “that racist stuff Charlie Kirk says.”
His response was a question. What racist stuff? Do you assume that everything a person says that may be racial is racist?
Charlie talked about race. He talked about black and white and hard things. That isn’t the same as being a racist — and Wooden’s verdict is plain: he was a great American, and we’re going to miss him.
