Compassion doesn’t cancel accountability. Grief deserves our prayers, but discernment still has to see what’s really going on.
This is a lawsuit update on the Nolan Wells case. Three of Nolan’s friends, through their fathers, have filed a federal defamation lawsuit: Hudson et al. v. Terrell Eldorado Owens, Case No. 1:26-cv-00292-TBM-RPM (U.S. District Court, Southern District of Mississippi). The complaint alleges that the defendant, named in the suit as Terrell Eldorado Owens, published an X post that falsely accused the young men of serious crimes. Those are allegations; the court will decide the case, not me. As has been widely reported, a Jackson County grand jury found no evidence of criminal wrongdoing, and no one has been charged in Nolan’s death.
In this video I break down a compilation of content creators alongside a message from Nolan’s mother thanking creators and allegedly asking that “a percentage of the proceeds” go to the content creators, some of whom, I say, are now facing defamation claims. I walk through what defamation actually is (it’s not “keeping Nolan’s story alive”), why money raised in a child’s name shouldn’t, in my opinion, fund the defense of people accused of defaming other young men, and why calls for violence and telling a young man to “unalive” himself are wicked, not passion. Nolan’s friends and their families are hurting too.
