For some Americans, their car isn’t simply transportation anymore; it’s their bedroom, living room, and only affordable place to stay.

High rent, security deposits, application fees, credit requirements, and the rising cost of living are making traditional housing increasingly difficult to access. Some people are working and earning income but still can’t afford the upfront costs and monthly expenses associated with renting an apartment.

Living in a car comes with its own costs and risks: gas, maintenance, parking, safety concerns, lack of privacy, and the constant uncertainty of where you’ll sleep next. And when your car is both your transportation and your home, one major repair can put everything at risk.
