This is an essay I wrote in 2021 after watching Michaela Cole’s series “I May Destroy You” which aired on HBO. The one-season series chronicles Cole’s character’s attempts to rebuild her life after being r*ped at a night club.
In commenting on this show, I include some of my thoughts on another HBO show headed by a Black woman writer/protagonist, Insecure by Issa Rae.
