A migrant caravan of more than 600 people is traveling north through Mexico toward the U.S. southern border as Border Patrol and the Department of Homeland Security continue monitoring its movement. The group, known as “Fe y Esperanza” or “Faith and Hope,” began with migrants departing Honduras but has since expanded to include people from several countries as it makes its way through Mexico. New reporting from Tapachula, Chiapas, reveals that members of the caravan have received medical treatment and humanitarian assistance from government health personnel and organizations including Proyecto Faro and ADRA. Proyecto Faro volunteers reportedly distributed food, water, hygiene packages and medical supplies, while ADRA provided similar humanitarian assistance primarily to women and children, with El Orbe reporting that ADRA’s assistance was financed by the Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints. The assistance provides new details about how migrant caravans are able to obtain food, water, medical care and other necessities while traveling hundreds of miles north toward the U.S.-Mexico border. With President Donald Trump maintaining dramatically tougher border enforcement and the 2026 midterm elections approaching, questions surrounding who funds and supports migrant caravans are adding another dimension to the national debate over illegal immigration, NGOs, humanitarian aid and U.S. border security.
